We invite you to help students help others!
It’s back! Are you feelin’ lucky? After much success, I’m excited to announce that the Make It Happen Raffle, which supports student service opportunities at the Catholic Newman Center, is back for its third year—and it’s not too late for you to enter!
What is it?
The Make It Happen Foundation is an opportunity for our community to help students serve others. The Catholic Newman Center is selling Raffle tickets to help benefit Service Opportunities performed by our very own Newman Center Students.
How does it work?
Participants pay a one-time annual donation of $100 for a “ticket”. During each of the selected months this year, October 2011 through April 2012, members will have the opportunity to win back their $100 through a monthly drawing. In addition to each monthly drawing, a lucky “Make It Happen” member is drawn at the end of April and will receive 10% of the total membership dues!
Where does my money go?
This year, the proceeds from this program will help send Catholic Newman Center students to serve families and repair homes in New Orleans during their spring break. The staff here at Newman has researched many service opportunities that match the students’ needs and, this year, have decided to volunteer with Operation Helping Hands, a program under Catholic Charities: Archdiocese of New Orleans.
In the devastating wake of Hurricane Katrina Operation Helping Hands has provided a desperately needed service to the people of the area. By demonstrating the love of Christ through helping hands, this organization helps the neediest home owners to clean up their neighborhoods and reoccupy their homes. As of June 2011, volunteers have gutted nearly 2000 homes and apartments for the elderly citizens, rebuilt 171 homes, and painted 391 houses. CNC students will spend their days working in restoring homes and apartments. In addition to installing insulation, hanging and finishing drywall, and cleaning up yards, the students will witness how Hurricane Katrina affected the community, learn about New Orleans unique culture, and develop a continued commitment and spirit in serving our fellow brothers and sisters. Our ideal service program integrates proven, successful placements like our Bethlehem Farm trip from March 2011 with other diverse service opportunities like Operation Helping Hands—and with your help, we are well on our way to that ideal goal!
How do I enter?
To join the raffle, mail your $100 tax deductible check to the Newman Center and Kay will fill out the raffle card for you and mail you a receipt. You never know, you could be the next winner!
Is it too late?
It's never too late! We'd love you to enter and join the fun!
We all can help build opportunities for students to serve others.
Thank you for your continued support.
Together, we are doing God’s work.
