Their primary responsibilities include:

        • Engaging in a yearlong experience of spiritual and personal growth
        • Committing to serve students’ best interests.
        • Completing tasks in full and on time with the guidance of the Campus Minister
        • Attending Newman Officer meeting once a week (1 group and 1 individual w/Campus Minister)
        • Participate in Officer training programs
        • Leading by example, representing the Catholic Newman Center by choosing ethical and moral behavior.
        • Celebrating Mass with the Newman community at least two Sundays a month
        • Participating in staff, committee, and team meetings, functions, or liturgical services as appropriate to enable effective ministry and collaboration.

President

  • Facilitate bi-monthly officer meetings with prepared notes and agendas
  • Attend the University Leadership Retreat in September
  • Oversee all projects and functions held at or by Newman
  • Assists Officers as needed, and holds them accountable to their duties.
  • Attends monthly meetings of the Advisory Board,  acting as a representative student liaison
  • Assists the CM in leading on-going training and organizing an evaluation of activities.

Treasurer

  • Attends Leadership Retreat in September
  • Organizes a report of the monthly balance, expenses, and pending costs. 
  • Maintains records of all money raised, earned, allotted, spent, or moved.
  • Works closely with Student Activities financial office. 
  • Writes the budget proposal for University with the collaboration of other Officers and CM
               

Historian

  • Sends out reminders of meeting times and action items for officers
  • Attends events to take pictures for future reference (or coordinates with others to take pics)
  • Responsible for maintenance, upkeep, and safety of Newman Center Digital Camera
  • Cleans and maintains any photographs or memoribilia in storage, designs some displays.
  • Uploads and updates website with pictures of Newman Events
  • Organizes all pictures, making a photo album/scrapbook for the year

Social Events Coordinator(s)

  • Brainstorms new ideas and executes prior successful events for community building and bonding among new and returning students.
  • Responsible for researching, planning, and implementing events with the help of the CM.
  • Gathering and preparing snacks for fellowship after Mass
  • Organizes, with CM,  both formal and informal social events at the Newman Center
    Informal: Movie Nights, Bowling, Ice Skating, Tailgating
    Formal: Christmas Party, Mardi Gras Party, Pumpkin Carving, Homecoming Dance, Deck the CNC, Thanksgiving Potluck, Stress Relief Night, Intramurals

Service and Justice Coordinator(s)

  • Researches service opportunities in the local community for monthly service projects.
  • Strives to include diverse types of service to a variety of communities in need, creating a comprehensive program appealing to many types of students.
  • Updates potential participants with opportunities, completing all necessary paperwork.
  • Assists Campus Minister in organizing Social Justice Month
  • Coordinates and Leads the social justice faith sharing group
  • Helps with special events like Pro-Life month, Peace and Justice protest, Winter Wonderland, Lenten Service opportunities, and donation drives.

Outreach Coordinator(s)

  • This person uses their creative juices to outreach to students at the Newman Center and on campus through advertising and a ministry of presence. 
  • Assists Campus Minister to coordinate and be present for welcome events at the beginning of each semester including: EXPO, Pizza and a movie, Welcome dinner, Ice cream and volleyball, Tie dye night, Waffles and wiffleball, Interfaith EXPO
  • Helps Campus Minister to develop and implement an outreach plan and programming for the residential community
  • Get to know and welcome more students by attending Noon at the Nosh every month.
  • As detail-oriented masters of persuasion, they will utilize the UMSL and Newman’s many outlets for publicity including: Newman News, flyering, Campus Calendars, Banners, Student Life Designer, The Current, Radio Station, Tabling, Bridge Dig. Board.

SGA (Student Government Association) Representative

  • The SGA rep is to be the mediator between the Student Government Association (SGA) and Newman, providing the Catholic Newman Center voice to the UMSL governing student body and is present for their meetings and decision making. 
  • The SGA rep reports back to the Newman members the topics at the SGA meeting and offer insight to the Officers about their experiences there.
  • Attend all SGA meetings and Leadership Retreat
  • The SGA rep must also write descriptions of programs we wish to submit to the UPB calendar and other calendars on campus.  

Members-At-Large

  • Members-At-Large assist with special projects or help other officers when necessary.
  • Members at large have been indispensable to our success here at Newman.

  • Our positions are fluid, meaning that we try to use the gifts of the students present at Newman instead of trying to squeeze them into a box of what we think ministry "should" look like.
